Facilitated information skills training - starts 28th January

FIRST (Facilitated Information Resource Skills Training) is a series of 4-6 hour blended learning courses taking place over six weeks starting on the 28th of January 2008. You will receive a weekly email, undertake a weekly task, view online tutorials, and record your progress in a portfolio.

You can do this course from any location (at home or at work) with internet access. You will also need to have email, microsoft word, and an NHS Scotland Athens password (register free at the eLibrary website at http://www.elib.scot.nhs.uk/).

Courses available:

EBSCO CINAHL: CINAHL is a biomedical reference database with a focus on nursing, midwifery and allied health information. This course is aimed at the novice searcher and at those who just want to brush up on their basic database search skills. (The course will cover Cinahl on the Ebsco service, which will become the new provider of Cinahl later this year).

OVID SP MEDLINE: MEDLINE is the core biomedical reference database. This course is aimed at the novice searcher and at those who want to brush up on their basic database search skills.

Advanced EMBASE: EMBASE is a biomedical reference database with a strong focus on pharmacology. This course is aimed at those who already have search experience (in any OVID database) and want to find out more about the advanced search features that are available.

NHS Scotland eLibrary: The NHS Scotland eLibrary is where you will find fulltext online journals, online books and subscription databases. Along with these you will find out how to make the most of the eLibrary, including personalisation and shared spaces.
