New insights into Glasgow's health

In work published today (20 July 2007) the Glasgow Centre for Population Health and the Medical Research Council (MRC) have found that if Glasgow had the same socio-economic profile as the rest of Scotland, a lot of its excess health problems would disappear. This is because poor health is associated with deprivation and therefore many of the negative aspects of health and lifestyle in Glasgow and the surrounding area are down to the relatively higher levels of poverty. The research was commissioned by the Glasgow Centre for Population Health and carried out by the Medical Research Council. The briefing paper and the full report are available online at the GCPH website and at the MRC Social and Public Health Sciences Unit website.
