Child welfare resources

A couple of resources on child protection and welfare have been highlighted this week...

The Playfield Institute at NHS Fife have developed the "HandsonScotland" website in collaboration with Barnandos and Dundee University and publicised it to healthcare libraries in Scotland. The website is aimed at anybody working with children and young people and is a "one-stop shop for practical information and techniques on how to respond helpfully to children and young people's troubling behaviour, build up their self-esteem, and promote their positive mental wellbeing".

The Scottish Executive have released Child Protection Statistics for 2006/07. Amongst the headline messages are the statistics that in 2006/07, there were 11,960 child protection referrals in Scotland and that 39% of the referrals resulted in an inter-agency case conference.

The report also offers recommendations on how practice can be improved".
